Look at these stunning marsh gentians (Gentiana pneumonanthe), planted in september this year and already flowering 🥰 (due to the warm autumn weather).
We are growing them at Meise Botanic Garden, as we are combining genetic material from small relict populations. When we have many seeds (from the bigger populations), we definitely prefer sowing them directly in the field.
- This year (2024) the University of Antwerp, Meise Botanic Garden, De wijnpers and Natuurpunt volunteers planted/sowed Gentiana pneumonanthe, Clinopodium vulgare, Pimpinella saxifraga, Succisa pratensis, Comarum palustre and Menyanthes trifoliata.
- Next year (2025) we are scaling up with the reintroduction of 7000+ plants of Serratula tinctoria, Selinum carvifolia, Leontodon hispidus, Antennaria dioica, Stachys officinalis, Briza media and Viola canina.
